Got this from the Indiana division of fish and wildlife Facebook posting:

Thanks to our friends @Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Indiana biologists and hatchery staff were able to obtain enough Chinook salmon eggs to meet our 2016 stocking goal! Last weekend, our staff traveled on short notice to spawn Chinooks at the Root River in Racine. Shown here are eggs coming out of a ripe female, the eggs being fertilized by a male salmon, a bucket full of eggs ready for transportation, and the WI DNR and IN DNR staff that made it all possible.

If your on FB I suggest joining their page - lots of good info from the DNR there.

Great. Now let's hope for s successful hatch and if we have one, thstv the release isn't a cormorant feeding frenzy.

According to jay wesley, michigan dnr biologist, they have started the process with the feds to decrease laker stocking. This all comes from a popular michigan forum where he is a active member answering questions and participating in discussion. He said they have completed the first but easiest step and have already gotten them to reduce lake trout stocking by 500k for this upcoming yr. More talks will happen in the winter for more reductions.

I also "heard/saw" on another site that the initial trawl studies indicated a uptick in the ales...but that officially won't be released until the spring I believe. Man we need some good news. Come on El Nino

Good to hear! The continued high numbers of Lakers is the one thing that has never made sense to me. Also hoping for a mild winter for the ales and some good news there in the spring.

Good news for sure! ;) Glad a few spoke up in behalf of reducing lake trout, and securing King eggs from Wisconsin. Indiana officials had already spoke that they thought it was "mother natures way of saying we shouldn't stock kings anymore" based on the results from Michigan. Pen nets now to secure the fingerlings would be a big help, along with stocking changes to insure a proper imprint is needed.
