Late morning start in Michigan City. Fished from 10 am to approx. 3 pm.     Fish scattered from 8 - 40' of water.  Flatlines, 1 color leads, riggers set at 5' and slide divers 60 back and just under the surface. Sorry for the ugly cooler but was starting to rain when we made it back to the dock and wanted to get the boat put away and fish cleaned.   Water was dirty and just about everything worked. Rattlin' Thin fins, Orange J-11 rapalas, custom painted bay rats and a dodger and fly.   Ended the day with a 3 man limit. 4 Steelhead and 11 Coho.

Great catch. Interesting, those steelies don't look all beat up from spawning like they usually do when you catch them this time of year. Alot of times the females tails will be worn to a nub, and the males will
be battle scarred. Also, no sign of color left on them.

I've seen the fish you describe leaving the river in the spring that are lean and missing part of their tails from fanning beds. Usually the meat is also a whitish gray.  I don't believe any of these Steelhead were old enough to have returned to the river. They were smaller,  bright silver and the meat was a bright orange.

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago and decided not to post it but since you mentioned it. We just put a new fish cooler on the boat with a handy little door you can open and drop the fish in. There were three of us and I wanted to make sure our fish count was accurate before adding any more fish.  Good Lord this is what I found.
Note to self: Doesn't matter that the wind chill is below freezing. Still need ice in cooler.
