We fished 5 hours out of Portage on Saturday no hits although we did mark some bait fish.

I fished smallies from shore this morning at EC. Painfully slow, 3 bites in about 3hrs. Pretty sure that’s not what you had in mind. I’m sure you’d have some action out in the area of the gong and working north or east. Bounce bottom with dodgers and spin n glos on riggers and wire dpsies. Run a couple boards with coho set ups and you probably find a couple of silver fish to go with the trout... I’m just guessing, but I saw Bro Nature’s rig in the parking lot today so he can probably confirm or deny. There’s also a chance that some bait has moved in and there’s a salmon in close flying under the radar.

Like Southshore said. Spot on. Some of the trout have switched to alewives so there is some salmon bait around.

Do you eat your Lakers and if so, how do you prepare them? I've just smoked them.

Personally I think Lake Trout are pretty good table fair. Now, with that being said, I am not going to put a 12-15lb trout to feed the family - smaller ones, usually 8lbs and less. I have never actually smoked one, just straight up grilled on a weber charcoal, and actually deep fried a few - was shocked at how decent that was. I definitely prefer salmon, but the trout get a bad rap because of big fish with long age, and toxin accumulation. Smaller ones are pretty decent in my honest opinion.
Boatless!
