After a great Saturday afternoon of fishing expectations were high on Melton away. But after a couple of passes around the corner of the landfill at Gary I knew the bite wasn't the same. Around 9:30 I decided to make a move to the west on the north side of inland where a big pack of boats was set up. We got our coho but couldn't find any bonus fish. Our best rod was the red thin on the outside boards. Dipsy with dodger/ fly took a couple. We weighed our best 9 and it was good enough for 5th place. I was very impressed with the 22 boat turn out and the nicely ran tournament by dirty and crew. Till next time Southend fans

Thanks for the report Mark. It was a tougher day than expected.

We decided to just keep working it at gary today. Nothing really stood out except that thin fins (every pattern imaginable) only took one fish for us. We also took a few coho on mag spoons which was a surprise. We ran primarily body baits and a few spoons.

Sounds like you guys had a fun day. It's spring break fro my wife (teacher) and kids so I'm hanging out this week in Florida. One of these days probably when the fishing stinks I'll get out there. Living vicariously through the board lately and it looks like a good time!!

True. Going Bass fishing tomorrow and going to try some salt water later in the week. Not bad. But my boat is sitting in the garage ready to go and today looked like a good day so hey I'm still a little jealous. Good job to all who fished today. Looked like a pretty fun time on the big lake!!

What made you try mag spoons? Usually a super slim is a good choice. What pattern worked for you? Off riggers or dipsies or weighted lines?

We had a mag moonshine spoon hunting for a potential king or laker......on a rigger anywhere from 15-40'. All hits came at 15' down.

That is cool. You just never know what will work from one day to the next. Pays to not being against to mixing things up and thinking outside the norm.
