I am thinking about going out of Michigan City this weekend and looking for some Kings. I am still new to trolling so any advice on where I should start looking for them would be appreciated! I went out in mid July and got onto some lakers and coho in 85'-100' of water.

I would start as early as possible in the shallower side 70 ish fow. Flasher flys or flasher meat and start running a jplug or 2. Fish just above the thermocline. Honestly though there just isnt a ton of them around to target specifically. Good luck let us know how it goes.

If you pull a smaller boat you might try further up north in Michigan or Wisconsin ports. Since we have all this natural reproduction going on? the dnr cut our stocking to nothing which means no fall fishing for us in Indiana or the southend of lake.. If you look at fishing reports this year you will see you have a better chance at catching a shark then a king around here. Coho, lakers and steelhead was the catch. We will see what the fall brings, but I'm not looking forward to it. Mike

I recommend Holland and north or Waukegan and north. St Joe is where I fish majority of the time and kings have been rare also. Only boated 1 all yr so far. 19" little guy we threw back. Grand haven seems to be the place to be right now.

I am thinking about going out of Michigan City

My friend and I landed a pair of nice kings (20 and 18 lbs) in 130 fow, fishing out of New Buffalo last Sunday. We ended up going 5-for-8 with the two kings, two lakers, including a 25-pounder and a steelhead. We started well before light and never had a nibble. Fish turned on around 8:30 til about 10:30 then shut off as fast as they turned on. Both kings came on dipseys with Spin Doctors and flies.

This one put up a pretty good fight. For the first 5 - 10 minutes, every time I'd gain 20 feet of line, it would strip off 50. The second photo is my friend Gene holding my king (20 lbs) and his king (18 lbs).
