Michigan Anglers Make Their Voices Heard!

We have some positive news regarding commercial fishing bills HB5801 and HB 5802.

The GLSI and Michigan Angler Consortium (MAC), along with numerous angler organizations from across the state, attended the initial hearing and submitted both oral and written testimony opposing these bills. We also compiled and presented a list of 172 fishing organizations, businesses, and individual anglers who opposed the legislation.

A huge thank you goes out to the thousands of anglers who contacted their legislators and urged them to vote against these bills. Your involvement made a real difference.
Because of this strong, united effort, we've won the first round in the fight to stop these bills. Several Representatives have withdrawn their co-sponsorship, and there are currently no future hearing dates scheduled for either bill.

While this is encouraging news, the fight is not over. We must remain vigilant and be ready to take action if these bills begin moving forward again. The Michigan Angler Consortium was created to provide a unified voice for Michigan anglers in Lansing, and we will continue closely monitoring these proposals and keeping you informed.

More Good News: HB 5093 Continues to Advance
Our pro-angler bill, HB 5093, is still making progress in Lansing. The bill was removed from yesterday's House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee agenda to allow for minor language revisions, and we expect it to return for a committee vote at the next meeting.
If passed, HB 5093 would:

Create a stakeholder comprised Fisheries Oversight Committee to ensure the revenue raised from this bill goes directly to improving fishing in Michigan

Allocates more fishing license revenue directly to the DNR Fisheries Division

This legislation would improve fishing opportunities for anglers across Michigan, and we will continue working hard to see it become law.

We'll keep you updated on HB 5093's progress and will let you know when it's time to contact your Representatives and help move this important bill forward.
Thank you for standing together and proving that Michigan anglers have a powerful voice.

We are also sharing this from the Hoosier Coho Club.
Please help us improve Indiana’s Salmon & Trout fishing!

We can ensure that every fish stocked is healthy and of the optimal size. Healthier and larger stocked fish means more survive, more thrive, and more return to our nearshore waters and tributaries!

Moving fish in the hatchery with a Transfer Pump instead of manually with nets will make that difference. The Hoosier Coho Club, joined by other stakeholders, are raising money to purchase a Transfer Pump to donate to the
Indiana Department of Natural Resources  Mixsawbah and Bodine Hatcheries.

Please contribute!

Every dollar counts because every fish counts!

Thank you for your donation, large or small! All funds go directly toward improving the future of boat, shore, and tributary fishing for Chinook, Coho, Skamania, and Winter Run Steelhead.

Last, there is a group holding a fundraiser for a building a fish cleaning station at the Crocker Boat Launch at Lk St Clair.
We have been accepted into the Public Spaces Community Places Program provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Our fundraising goal over the next 60 days, until July 31st, is $45,000. Upon reaching this goal the MEDC will provide a matching grant. This will provide the balance needed to fully fund our fish cleaning station project. Please make a donation today. No matter how large or small, every donation counts.
