Good luck. Looking forward to the report.

I can only imagine how the water is upside down with the recent wind and waves. We couldn't even make it out to the start of the pier in St Joe on Sunday with the west wind. Rollers appeared to be about 3-4ft between the piers.

Wish I had something to report but my fishing partner was a no show so I did some boat cleaning and got my glow cranks sorted. Weather is going to be good so gonna try to get out every evening if possible.

If one of our fishermen is fishing from a kayak, your putting yourself in danger fishing with no lights after dark. Seems like you could at least have a headlight on. It gets pretty scary when you notice something out there in the dark and see it's a kayak fishermen fishing with no lights on. In the trolling area out in 40-45ft.

Yes, when fishing at night in Indiana, a kayak or other non-motorized vessel must have a light source. While it does not need to be constantly displayed, a bright white light must be readily available to show to other boats to prevent a collision.
Light requirements for non-motorized vessels
  • A white light: You must have an all-around white light, such as a flashlight or lantern, visible for at least two miles.
  • Readily accessible: The light must be in reach so you can flash it at oncoming vessels, such as powerboats, to make them aware of your presence.
Best practices for visibility at night
For maximum safety, many paddlers go beyond the minimum requirements. Consider using these additional measures:
  • Wear a headlamp: A headlamp keeps your hands free for paddling and fishing while allowing you to shine the light where you need it.
  • Attach a beacon light: An "all-around" 360° white light on a pole or attached to your personal flotation device (PFD) increases your visibility to other boaters.
  • Use reflective tape: Placing reflective tape on your paddle and PFD helps you stand out when hit by another vessel's lights.
  • Carry a spare flashlight: A backup light source is a wise precaution in case your primary light fails.

Anything shaking on the end of the line?

We are planning to go out over the weekend with the decent forecast. Maybe try St Joe again. Hopefully some stagers by the pier heads. But if not, and calm like they are saying, may cruise out a ways.

I fished St Joe Wednesday evening from 120 to 160 ft. Only one small King for my efforts.Cold water down about 90 ft out there. A few boats were jigging at the mouth of the Paw Paw river but no action according to the anglers that I spoke to .
