I going to come up for a one day trip with a couple of buddies. One is a newbie to the lake. Hope we can catch a bunch. I will on the water around 9 am. I will be on channel 68

Steelies, I'm not so sure it's going to be worth the drive to fish this weekend. We had a pretty good blow the last two days. I was able to get out of EC on Wednesday and the conditions were already deteriorating. I heard Portage was unfishable. Hopefully someone else can chime in on how bad the water got stirred up. At the very least, I'd suggest considering a launch out of Hammond and fishing inside the break walls at Calumet Harbor, that area is most protected from North winds and usually recovers the quickest.

It's going to be a hit or miss with possible swells and real murky water! I'd check this link out before you leave (if you can see the water)...it's better than noaa!!!

I'm going regardless Don. It's time to launch and get the season started. It appears as though it will be unfortunate timing after the freaking gale yesterday. Watching these guys who live up there hauling in those great catches is aggravating...but thanks for those reports!
The wind is supposed to turn around and come out of the SE overnight so I personally think it will be fishable. Could be some swells, but swells are ok, better than the 2-3's that blast you out of the SW that's typical this time of year.
I could be very wrong as well, but we're heading up this evening and plan on attempting a MC launch in the morning!

I'll take a ride and post later water conditions around portage. Hopefully it's not that stirred up. Usually after a good blow fishing not all that great but you should be able to put some in the boat and it's not like you have to go 25 miles offshore to find them. Mike

Good luck Don, I hope you are able to get out. We went out Wed. and the wind was suppose to switch from NNW to ESE over night and it didn't happen. Sooo with 4-5 ft. rollers no lake fishing for us. I'll be looking forward to your report. Rudey

I expect it's going to be might rough out there still today. The webcams back this up!

I think your bigger obstacle is going to be dirty water. We had a ton of rain the past 36hrs and the ditch and trail creek are going to be pumping mud. If it were just the lake being rough, you can work around that. When I left EC on Wednesday the water that washing around the point at Inland was already chocolate milk and there was a midline set up going from the 2nd light all the way to the old Mitchell plant. That's why I'm saying Cal Park/Harbor would be best, not because of waves, but because it's your best bet at some clean water. All that said, I hope you guys get into some fish wherever you go, coho are good size right now, hoping to see some kings starting to sprinkle in.

If I don't pick up anything quick close in I might head out to deep water hoping for cleaner water and try for some Lakers...........

I have not been there before so i would be somewhat lost. Would it be bad over toward Gary light? I have done well along the steel wall going that way.
