Not that I'm planning a Christmas trip, but seems odd no one is mentioning any lake trout action, either trolling or jigging. I'd guess it should be going hot and heavy by now in the usual locations - Port Reef, Gary, Cal Park, etc.  Anyone doin' it?

I was out earlier in Dec and landed a couple lakers and throw back cohos at Gary and burns ditch trolling, lost something decent at the port. There's fish around.

King Me is one of the lucky ones.  I've been out 4 times between late November and early December with absolutely nothing to show for it.  Fished primarily at mouth of Burns Ditch with one trip to Gary Works.  Those who were around to talk to at the Marina including some of the shore fishermen were all doing about the same as me.  A far cry from last year at this time.

The day I was out was tough for me also. After the first fish hit right away and 2 more laps around Gary light with no more fish I was swapping out lures like crazy because the fish were there but not hitting. Went back to the lure that caught the fish and it was the only lure touched the rest of the day.
Definitely not as good as last year, none of the lakers I caught were over 8lbs and there was no need to check the length of the cohos last winter.

Welcome to the world of endless Saturdays, Steve!  Of course, I chose to double down on my charterfishing business when I gave up the W-2 world, but it's a labor of love. I just gave advise to another friend who was retiring. "Remember, you don't have to get it all done today. On the other hand, never face a day with nothing to do."  That's not an issue as a boat owner/fisherman. There's always something to do.
