TOPIC:

With the weather for the tournament looking good early I went east almost to mount baldy on a whim that out of a handful of days prefishing my biggest coho came that way. It was dead until we got to where the dunes state park began then we were picking away at fish to the pavilion. After hitting 18-20 fow we looped back in the 30s without a bite. Back into the high teens and caught a couple more before time ran out and we continued west. Out of desperation a member of the crew grabbed a rod in the late hours of the tournament and began jigging the rod with a magnum tadpolly while trolling, took a big hit and peeled quite a bit of line before coming off. Maybe 2-3 drivebys and one shaker, 5 fish in the cooler with one being a 22" monster. Best speed was 2.3-2.5. There wasn't a magic bait, almost every rod got changed at least once. All but one fish came on boards (flatlines, 2-3 color leadcore) with one on a mini dipsy pulling an orange/gold Rapala. 50 copper, stealth dipsy and rigger were never touched.
I want to say thanks to my crew, they did pretty awesome, Jeff and everyone else involved with making the tournament happen.
