I’m tying up leaders for my peanut flies and combining them with a Baby Spin Doctor or Coho Z-Dodger. Do you measure the leader length from the end of the hook on the fly to the point where the leader attaches to the swivel on the flasher/dodger? That’s how I’ve done it in the past. Or do you include the swivel in your measurement?

Most people use 18 inch leaders. Just not sure if that includes the swivel or not? The swivel is at least 2 inches. 

If you’re not sure what I mean, look at the attached picture to see what I mean? Red line or blue line?

Tmik, so how long do you tie your leaders for peanut flies? Do you do 15 inches?

for the small Spinnies and Z- dodgers which spin as more - maybe just wider - than "flat" dodgers - 18" is about the shortest I use. I don't get really "anal" about it. I'm sure some days 15 inches would be better than 25 inches, other days when 25 would out-produce shorter flies, but most of the time it wouldn't much matter, as long as you are in the ballpark. .  

Jp, what BN said i usually do 2.5x the dodger or flasher. I usually tie on my leader to the paddle then wrap 2.5 times around (long ways) then tie on my fly on so its close.
