Hello ,Have two questions:  when using downriggers early in spring, how far between the ball and dodger and peanut fly ? When using flat lines I'm reading and getting different answers on how far line should be let out behind boat. I've heard 35 feet to 80 feet. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

on the riggers with dodger fly, 10 ft. flat lines 50-80 ft back from the board.

Yeah keep the dodger and fly close to the ball. The flat lines depend on the lure you are running.  When I'm using thinfins for steelhead I like to run them 80 to 100 feet back.

Just so I understand, early spring like the next month coho are usually in the top third of water colum. So on the down rigger with dodger and peanut fly ,10 to 15 feet down and 10 feet behind ball? Just want to be sure I understand. I appreciate your help.

Yes that is correct 

Yes, they are not shy of the prop wash it sometimes attracts them. You will find fish top of the water column through April and into May depending on how quickly the water warms. Then in late June early July you'll find Skamania in close on top which given the right day can be lights out.

I have another question, I've seen guys posting that they are catching Lake Trout while trolling for Coho. What methods are they using for Lakers at this time of year. Are they dedicating lines specifically for Lakers?

Some guys dedicate a line or two for lakers but most don't. If lakers are around, they'll bite just about anything, just like the coho. Closer to the bottom is usually better 

If you WANT to target lakers, a spin doctor or flasher with a spin and glow/fly combo, near the bottom on a downrigger is hard to beat.   A spoon on a dipsy diver run near the bottom will take them too

Otherwise just run your normal coho stuff and you'll catch a laker or 3 if they are in the area
