We started with a plan to drop lines a little southwest of 3 corners (tri state line) and work northeast doing north and south trolls while sliding east. If we found some good fishy areas we would circle on them. It didnt take too long before we found a good area 65-75 FOW. It was not amazing but pretty solid. I would say we were lucky to boat some real nice sized fish. We got two kings early, one on a meat rig back 125 and one on a 6 color leadcore spoon.

We caught 15 coho or so, and half were on the small side that we all have been seeing lately. Those that were hooked clean we threw back. What surprised me were the lake trout, they were tough and suspended - not as many there as I expected to see. We caught none on the bottom. We didnt catch a ton but what we did get were certainly big fish. Mag spoons did the best, but some came on regulars too. We did not run any super slim spoons. Most fish were caught 25-40' down in the water column, with a few coming both higher and lower.

Jeff what speed were you running with the meat rigs? I have been trying to get meat rigs to work for me but so far they are not producing. From what I have read and watched most are saying to run them slow so just curious what speed you generally run them.

good job on the win - its about time you got one from Bill :)

Hey Ed,
I would say on average, slower is better, but they will hit it going fast too at times. This one hit on the faster side. From my recollection we were 2.7 to 2.9 somewhere at the time. Thats only the second king we caught on meat all year, so its not been a great bait for us this year, but still always out.

Nice haul! We ran 2 meat rigs on divers Saturday, one behind a spindoctor and the other behind a paddle. Both caught lake trout...
