Long story about why I ended up at Northpoint Marina this week - considering it started with plans to go to Put -n Bay, Ohio next week. Regardless, here I am in Winthrop Harbor, home of Northpoint Marina.

Fishing was great on Tuesday - if you like lake trout. Luckily, I don't mind them. We couldn't beat them off the lines. Even caught one on an orange dodger/ small fry fly on a planer board. Managed to boat only 2 cohos, but it's a vacation trip, weather and waves were nice, fun day. Wednesday, bit more texture to the water but still not bad. But it fired up the cohos. Ended up with three trout in the box, seven cohos and we released 3 cohos and three lakers, some because they were dinks, others hit while pulling our lines.

There were about 10 boats out on Tuesday, only 2 of us Wednesday.

I actually like North point. I always think about fishing there and decide to go to portage or east chicago because they are a little closer for me. We plan on launching out of there more this year.

Anyways, sounds like a good couple days of fun!
The little red rocket! It's all the boat I need ;)

We are hoping we can still go to Put-in-bay the second week of June. We have licenses but not sure about if the Ferry’s will be running. The we need to check with the place where we stay on the southern end of the island to see if they are open for business. Thinking 50/50 chance. North point is a great place and Spotted Cow isn’t too far away!!

I don't think there's any problem with the ferries at Put in Bay, other than you have to stay in your car. My "landlord" messaged me that PIB was "open" but I'd guess it would just be with the same health restrictions as elsewhere. I've not heard of any "two people' per boat restrictions in Ohio, other than charters are asked to maintain 6-foot social distancing. That's tough, but I don't know how close they are checking.

Rain delay on Thursday. Hit the water about 11 AM. Cohos were sleeping, (but we did fish way more south than the first couple days so we could troll north with the waves). Plenty of trout. But this one made the day! Hit a green silver Revelator - similar to a spin-doctor - trailing a mirage fly. One more day, today, then back to work -- back to no-work, sheltering - back to, who knows? I'll have to check with the government to see what's open.

The fish looks huge, eh? Actually 22 1/2. Cell phone cam must have some sort of huge fish setting. Still, a welcome fish and much better than the ugly cooler pick my cousin snapped later - all covered with blood and laker poo.
