Okay, all you guys were great to me last year getting this newbie on the coho bite. Now I'm expanding my south end fishing this year by going after bigger fish this year. Thinking about launching out of Pastricks, heading up to the Gong then going east. What i have in my arsenal are 4 dipsy rods and two downriggers. I was thinking running deep spoons on the downriggers then pair of dipseys on the 1 setting running some spindoctoctors and fly then a pair of dipseys on 3 setting and running flasher and fly.
My question is- is this a decent setup or would you do something different with what I have? - 4 dipsey rods and two downriggers. ( no copper or lead core). If I get a third guy in the boat I'll send out a pair of boards too.
I appreciate all the help I can get . I should add I don't mind catching lakers either, and would definitely welcome a king or two and I'll always take a coho too! Thanks

Sounds like a decent program. Experiment with it. Try a spoon on a dipsy, get a FF deep near bottom for lakers, make sure to use free sliders on your riggers.

Thanks, feel kinda silly but what is a FF for the Lakers? Also if i put sliders on my riggers that counts as total rods per man ,correct? So if i get that third person in the boat then I could add sliders instead of setting out boards, right? Looks like i have an excuse to get a couple more rods and reels now ,lol.

Thanks for answering my first post

Sliders just snap on your down rigger rods. They dint count as lines unless you go to Wisconsin. Three foot leader with a snap on each end. Put a spoon or coho dodger on one end, snap the other end onto your mainline after your rigger rod is set.

I would not stop running your yellow birds. Coho are still around, and steelies will hit them all summer. Double orange crush or an orange j-11 should live on there.

F/F- flasher fly

4 diver rods especially if you’ve got attractors on them is a recipe for a frustrating morning followed by an afternoon of cutting, re-spooling, and re-tying. Can it be done? Absolutely. Is it worth it? Rarely.

Okay so a slider attaches to your main line then, thanks. Is there a something that clips on your downrigger line too ,to attach to another rod, looks like an offshore release but there's two of them ? I picked up a couple of them, thought that would let me run two this per downrigger , thought they were called sliders but im probably mistaken.

Free slider is anything where from 36" to 48" long and has 2 snap swivels on it. 1 snap connects your spoon to the line and the other snap is attached to your downriggers rod mainline after your downrigger is set at the depth you want. After it is snapped on the line, throw the spoon in the water and as long as it isn't tangled it will slide down to the bend in the mainline.

Awesome thanks, sounds simple enough. The two clip thing I picked up was a stacker, not a slider. I was confused. I believe that let's me run two poles off one downrigger. Now how about a slider off my stacker, could i then get three baits off one downrigger? Is that possible?

Thanks for all the help guys0

yup you were thinking stacker 2 poles 1 rigger. That allows you to fish 2 lures at a controlled depth, the free slider is an uncontrolled depth, I estimate when fishing about half way down but not really sure exactly where it is. As far as running a slider off a stacker, I could see that working but I don't have any experience with doing that. You could always test it for us hahah.

I just may try that someday :)

So when the free slider is bit does it then trip the DR release and slide down to, in my case, the swivel that's attached to my 6' leader and that lower bait that was attached to the ball just tags along when you reel the fish in?

Sorry so many questions but just getting this all straight in my head. Going to be a learning experience, just ran dipseys for the first time last week. Time to learn downriggers!

Depending on the strike and the size of the fish, it will either release like the mainline and slide down to your stop or the lure or you will see the rod tip bouncing and you then need to release it manually but reel very quickly in order to have the stop or mainline lure catch up and have tension on the line. A lot of slider fish are lost because there is a time that the fish will not have tension on the line as you reel the slack up.
