As I stated in my intro post I am totally new to all of this and I have been doing my research and learning as much as possible. I was curious about when the kings start moving into the south end in the spring and about how long do they stay until they move back out to deeper water? I have read that a few people on here are setting one or two downriggers for a king while coho trolling. Is that the best approach or are there enough of them around to setup strickly for kings? Anyway just trying to learn more from some of you more experienced fishermen before I head back out.

It varies year by year, but in general, kings start showing up mid-April (now) and stick around for a couple weeks to a month. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.

There are already a few stray kings being caught right now

Generally your chances of catching kings improve greatly if you are running at least a couple rods targeting them. Whether a flasher/fly, a larger spoon, etc. Down lower than your coho baits, typically.

I think a good starting point is about 1/3 to 1/2 your spread targeting kings this time of year. If you have 2 people running 6 rods, 2 of them should target kings. Or even 3. IF running 9 rods, 4 targeting kings. Etc. Adjust from there on any given day

Good thing is that often the coho will still hit those king presentations.

Thank you for the info I truly appreciate everyone's willingness to share this information. This forum has been invaluable to me and helping me shorten the learning curve. Hoping to get back out this weekend so I will give this setup a try and see if I can get lucky.

My spread will be 100% king anytime I go out for the next month. So far I have only been out on a lone shake down trip. Cant wait to get out more - this weather really needs to improve!!
