I'll be re-rigging a couple manual downriggers, got overruns and kinked wire on both. A bad kink on one of them cost me a ball and a Chamberlin release yesterday. Anybody run alternatives to wire on their 'riggers? Pluses and minuses?

I went with 150 and 200 Powerpro to see if I could get away from so much blowback when fishing 100+ feet deep. Worked okay for a few trips. The 200 wasn't much better than steel cable though. The 150 was slightly better. THEN CAME THE FISH HOOK FLEAS in July. That was the end of it. Might as well have been running clothes line rope. Just learn to not kink the stainless cable and be done with it.
I actually think it's probably easier to notice kinks or frayed weak spots on wire than it would be with string.
