I cough this fishing this morning. I think it’s a coho. The only reason I second-guess myself is the size. It weighed 17.8 pounds. What do you guys think?

I saw it in person and think its a coho. Coho mouth, coho eyes, king tail. Only way to tell is count the anal fins. If you do that it suggests coho IMO but I am not sure.

I agree, monster coho! Probably a 4 year old instead of the normal 3. Decided to spend an extra year in the lake for whatever reason.

Someone in Chicago area caught a similar sized coho last week

Makes me think back to the year 2000 - year of the Megahos! For some reason (obviously related to food) instead of the 1 1/2 pound average size for March 'hos, they were 4 pounds. Then they grew! On my first trip in May, I caught seven cohos over 10 pounds. The biggest I caught (personally) weighed 16 pounds in July and one of my customers nailed an 18 pounder in August.

The next year it was back to normal.

I did weigh one this week that went 10 1/2.
