Headed North out of the harbor and set lines at 6:40am. Fished 45-55fow early and had 4-5 hits landing 3 Kings. Had 1 crushing hit on a wire diver that broke the wire line off above the diver and lost the whole setup. Waited it out in shallow where we had hits which turned out to be a mistake as we had no action for about 2 hours. Finally headed west and found a good stretch of water from 75’ to 90’. Went east and west over this stretch the rest of the trip till 1:00pm. Got another large king, 2 coho and 4 lake trout and lost 6-8 more. Ended 10 for 18 or so. Kings came between 30’ to 45’ down for us. Coho were higher. Most hits were on spoons.

Very nice. I had the same problem with my wire dipsies yesterday. Broke 4 leaders off but fortunately only lost leaders and spoons.

Thanks for moving this to the right forum Jeff.
Hooked, mine snapped the wire right off. I had a 15lb King tangle 3 rigs counting the wire diver. I untwisted it and thought it was ok. Costly mistake on my part.

No problem Jake.

I hate to hijack the thread but I think its a potentially a good wire diver discussion, John - what was the cause of the diver failures? Was it the leader line or wire? What kind of connection and leaders were you guys running? John it sounds like you had repeated failures, so just curious what might be the cause.

No problem. I’m sure mine was a weak spot in the wire as it got twisted in the tangle. I untwisted it and pulled it straight. The thought went thru my head to cut the wire and retie, but it seemed solid and I was in a hurry to reset the rod as the bite was pretty good.
I tie the wire onto a snap and swivel and clip that to the diver.

Mine was the leader behind the dipsey behind the snubber. Broke the leader 4 times. Brand new leaders, after the first one broke, seven foot of 20 lb floro tied to two swivels. Dipsies and drag set as light as possible.

I honestly think it was getting hit by large fish and breaking the line. Couldn’t figure anything else out anyway.

Definitely want to retie gear when you can this year, any weak spots will be exposed on all tackle. To the gentlemen running 20lb diver leaders, 30lb is minimum this year with these size fish. You don’t want too loose of drag you won’t get good hook sets. Bump up to 30lb leader and you should be fine

Pike we stayed inside after everyone left and they turned back on again. It was even better in the afternoon. All big kings and lots of them. We landed over 20 kings in there between late morning and early afternoon. 200’ 32lb coppers with mag spoons were on fire. Sounds like some coho are moving our way it should be good this weekend for them also
