Late start on 5/26, didn't get on the water til around 8. Couldn't get much going at all. Lost a good one on a standard size blue dolphin on a rigger down 45 about a mile NE from the light house. Wasn't paying attention and didn't see the rigger release; the clicker screaming was what got my attention. Had it for about 15 seconds then it was gone. Not sure what it was. Made one final loop down to Central beach and set up in 35 FOW heading back toward the harbor. Small steelie ripped a small double orange crush free slider that was probably 12 foot down. Released him to get bigger. Recreational traffic and heat were too much, pulled lines and headed in around 12:30

5/28 Started setting lines around 5:45. Headed down the dunes thinking there might be some Skamania in close. While setting lines a 4 color on a board with a silver / purple spoon (not sure of name) got hit just as the drag was being set and the rod was being put in the holder. Coho. Trolled to Central and then back to harbor with no additional hits. Decided to head out deeper after a pass in front of the break wall and headed 330 from the lighthouse. Got to 50 FOW and a braid dipsey out 50 with a chrome 6 inch dodger and purple fly got a hit. My buddy though he had a beast on until he realized the dipsey didn't release... Another coho in the box. Got that rod reset and then a Stinger Green Bubble free slider down 20 or so went. Coho.

Circled around to hit that same spot / heading again without a hit. Headed out a bit further to 60 and there was nothing on the graph. Turned back in and had a good rip on that same dipsey setup but lost the fish (at which point I realized that I had forgotten to put the snubber on). Recreational traffic and heat once again got to be too much and we headed in around noon.

Marked a ton of bait balls, some pretty large, from 30 to 55 FOW. Most were suspended with the center of the ball being around 20 down. Some was on the bottom in 30 FOW off the dunes. Water temp was kind of all over the place. Some spots 25 foot down it was 48, other spots 50 foot down it was 52.

Side note, I had a bird run in to the side of the boat today while chasing it’s buddy around when it failed to pull up in time... sploosh in the water it goes as we are watching. Go to the side of the boat and it is stunned and about to go under and get sucked in to the trolling bag. Lucky wake brings the trolling bag front edge just under the water right then and pops up right as the bird goes over top of it. Bird clings on to the front edge heavy nylon stitching for about 5 seconds then takes off.

I need that bird’s kind of luck...
