Well in these slow days I was looking at some of the summer pic's and found this 1. Just wondering what everyone thinks about it. At first look I thought it was a Laker but then I wasn't so sure. Anyone got other thoughts? Maybe a Splake?

We also caught a similar looking trout this summer. I chalked it up as a young laker that just had funky markings being that it was still young. However splake also crossed my mind but i have zero experience with them..

Just a young lake trout. Looks like it is a wild fish, due to still having its adipose fin

Most of them look pretty similar to that when they are young. But there is variation in coloration depending on strain, habitat they are caught from, etc

No splake stocked in Lake Michigan since 2008

I caught what I figured was a splake years ago - decades. What caught my attention was the fish had copper colored spots on it, each circled by a sort of buff ring. Seems like I had to count the rays on it's anal fin or something like that. Wasn't very big - maybe three pounds.
