Fished out of St. Joseph 9/12. Started from around 30 FOW out of the mouth and then ran about 1/2 mile north and south looking for a staging king or coho. only lures were spoons orange crush, black fin tuns, mack & cheese, blue dolphin, monkey puke. No hits nada. we moved out to around 80 FOW with about the same pattern with the addition of a chrome flasher, and a green spin doctor green fly, with one drive by releasing a downrigger. Moved out to 135 FOW same thing no hits. we did mark quite a few fish and bait but only had a nice boat ride. Thats why they call it fishing instead of catching LOL

Thanks for the report Bruce. Right now we have warm lake temps top to bottom and cooler creek temps. I am guessing the fish are running straight up and not much staging going on. I gave it a try early out of portage today and same story. Ended up with a silvers eye on a mag spoon pulling lines, that was it.

We fished st joe pier heads and trolled up down the channel also. Nada. River is cooler than lake fish are moving right up. Fish are at south bend already.

Yep, Tim, his friend Mike, and I struck out on Sunday.

Talked to a charter captain and he said a few (emphasis on few) silver fish were caught out of St. Joe in 250+ feet, and mostly lake trout in 150-200. And not even that many lake trout.

I think the yo-yoing water of flipping, and then a big front, and then 66 degree water top to bottom all within a week or two has really got things discombobulated

I fished there on the 12th and 13th in the morning. I didn't get anything on the 12th but did the next morning. I had luck straight off the light house in 140 feet. I got a laker, steelhead, and king all in the 5 pound range. The only thing they hit on was a black glow spoon with an eye on it. I'm not sure what it is called. None of the fish were big enough to trip my riggers. They were all half dead when I drug them in.

Thanks for the report. Was the spoon a black moonshine with an orange ladder back?
