TOPIC:

Managed to get out for a few hours on Wednesday night hoping to get in on the Skamania run. Got screwed by the rail bridge (I'm in Trail Creek marina) and had to get gas, so we didn't get out in to the lake until about 5:45. Scooted out to 50 FOW and turned west while setting lines. By the time we had 8 rods in the we were in about 60 FOW. Nice temp break setting up there, it was 68 surface and 54 at the ball 40 foot down. Only a few marks and no hits.

Trolled all the way past the dunes and then started our turn around toward shore hoping to pick some up in shallower water. By the time we got turned around completely we were in just 30 FOW. Only a couple of minutes and 2.5 color lead core far outside board with Dr. Death standard size picked up our first and largest Steelhead of the evening at 12 lbs.

Barely got that rod back out when a Mag Dipsey 34 back #2 setting on 50 lbs braid rod went screaming. Large size snubber, then about a 7 ft leader to a Fire 00 Jensen Dodger with a small white and red fly (I don't know the name of it and forgot to get a picture...) Smaller fish, just shy of 8 lbs. That was right in front of Black Ditch.

Turned back around right before Nipsco and got back in to 30 FOW following the same path. Same 2.5 lead core with standard Dr. Death went ripping again. Had one color back on the reel and it broke off, taking my only standard size Dr. Death and the swivel snap with it... Barely got another swivel snap out of the tackle box when a 4 color on inside board same side went off. Had a chrome 00 Jensen Dodger with a small purple fly rigged up on that. Managed to boat that fish, 10 lbs. Put out a mag size Dr. Death on the 2.5 and reset the 4 color setup. Made the turn back toward the harbor along the same path, but there wasn't much light left. Pulled rods when we got past Black Ditch without a hit and headed in just about complete darkness...

All of our hits were in top 15 or 20 of the water column. No hits on riggers even when we put them at 20 ft. Troll speed between 1.8 and 2.2 at ball, which translated to be about 0.2 faster on the surface via FishHawk and about 0.5 faster via GPS speed.

Fun quick trip. Glad to have made it out and got in on some of the action. Thanks to MCAngler for a report and Kick'r for some advice.
