While I would love to fish Redear I imagine it is the same issue with stocking alewives- the number they would have to stock to put a dent in the population isn't feasible. I also am not sure how deep the readear will go.

Could you imagine the size of Great Lakes redear with an abundant food source like that.

Interesting how they say that Chinook ONLY eat alewives. I have found smelt, perch, and gobies when filleting them.

You got it on all counts- the numbers you'd have to stock would not be possible to make an impact

And they are indeed a shallow, warm water species, whereas the quagga mussels inhabit waters out past 300 feet deep. Redears would hang out in drowned river mouth lakes, harbors, and other nearshore areas. They aren't a deepwater species and the habitat overlap with the mussels would be very minimal

We have a lot of drum and whitefish out there already eating the mussels, (and gobies too) but they just reproduce way faster than fish can keep them in check
