Fished with a charter this past Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, out of Catawba, launching from West Harbor. We have done this the last 9 years, after Memorial Day and before Mayfly hatch. Fishing is usually right out front within a few miles, sometimes we have limits casting within a couple hours. Because of the high winds out of the northeast Friday and Saturday (May 28 and 29) creating 11 foot waves the water was very muddy. in the western basin. After 9 days the water cleared up some in the western basin. However we had to go 24 miles to the west (about 6 miles west of West Sister Island) to catch any walleye. Walleye fishing around the islands was dead. The thought is that the the 3 foot surge of water around the islands from the high winds was the cause; when the water went down the currents took the bait and fish to the central basin. On Thursday we stopped about 2 miles east of west and took walleye. The charters were breaking even due to fuel cost.
