I've often thought about having a stuffed skunk, real or artificial, stuck in my cooler (or the livewell I use instead of a cooler in the spring) so I could "ceremonially" pull the skunk out of the box when the first fish goes in. The problem, I reasoned, would be the skunk would often be a soggy mess by the time the skunk gets freed. Wouldn't be long until the skunk would be almost as smelly as a real one.

So what I did was make a special flag to "hoist" to announce the box holds some fish. I don't use it every day, but when I get the right crew - young kids, etc. - they get a big kick out of it! I bought the "skunk" flag on Amazon and used a magic marker to draw the "circle/slash."
