Headed out to the flats to try for perch after the big new years blows.  I tried Friday but the lake was really churned up, no bites. Today there was lots of chunk ice floating around. No real jumbos in today’s limit, but all nice size. Great way to finish up the holiday weeks, given the extra days off to relax. Other people I talked to didn’t have much luck. Also a huge thanks to the two guys who helped me with my boat issue at the ramp.  I wouldn’t have been able to fish without you guys!

Haha.  Just your average cold weather issues while fishing open water in January!  Be safe out there and check your equipment before every outing. Tight lines

I don't have GPS numbers for them, but if head pretty much straight out from the USS Lighthouse/blast furnace about two miles you will see the pack of boats that are there anytime the lake is 3ft or less, water is anywhere from 50'-60' deep, just remember that if the wind is out of the south at 10 plus mph it can get a little sporty that far out for smaller boats say under 20',just depends on what you're comfortable fishing, and yes the perch you catch will die if released from this depth,so your supposed to keep any perch caught regardless of size, even though people feed the gulls all the time,it's hard for guys to keep a 9"-10" or smaller perch when your catching 12"-14" fish, but the dnr lady that checked me at the ramp said its illegal to release fish that you know won't make it,something like that.

Be Safe......Greg
