I'm new to downriggers. A friend gave me 4 with walker lr releases. Can some one tell me the proper way to use them?

Should be a white (cap) on one end that is the front and tension adjustment. Then the back there should be a lip in the tube. You make a loop in your line and snap the line into the lip you'll feel a pop. That is all it takes.

I replaced my Walker releases with Offshore pinch pad releases. Buy the stacker and you will have 2.

Make sure its an open loop. 
Switch to blacks release or rubber bands asap and avoid the aggravation. jmo

I use the Scotty pinch pads. They work really well 

Very hard to beat Scotty release clips. A lot of versions available too. Long to short leaders and large and small release clips along with stacker    versions.
 

My Searunner 190, "Four "D's" and a "C". Retirement money well spent.
