TOPIC:

Launched around 5:15 with aspirations of heading east but the mud looked too appealing with a couple alewives jumping in the ditch so we dropped lines right outside the mouth on a west troll. Water was a bit chalky but not too bad- graph read 46 degrees on top.  Worked the 30 fow range down the beach with steady action for a few miles until it wasn’t so hot.  Meanwhile it seemed that most of the boats passed us to head to Gary or went the other direction to R4.  The bite slowed down at around 7:30 and we had 4 or 5 in the box with a couple lost.  Went to turn around and the rigger popped at 22 ft down with a 10 lb king in the boat shortly after.  The east troll was not nearly as productive but we picked up one, moved out to 50 fow with nothing to show.  Made another troll west and picked up another in the 30 range, and finished off with one more on the east troll back in.  Pulled lines in front of the mouth at 10:30.  No real pattern to the baits and depths- spoons, dodger/flies and a thin fin took coho on 2, 3, and 4 colors as well as flat lines and dipsies out 20.  Downriggers down 18-22 took fish with sliders, king hit an SS green dolphin on the rigger.  Our speed was 2.2 gps heading west and 1.9 heading east.  Ended with 7 coho and a king in the box, threw a few back and lost a few too.  It sounded pretty slow on the radio.  Nice to meet you LWL and thanks for working with us on the radio- I tried buzzing you earlier in the morning and the radio didn’t seem to be reaching you until later.

Looking back at some old pics and I believe we may have had a monster coho on board.  Cooler pic posted.  Doesn’t have that chinook eye and didn’t peel drag.  Scales are shedding too.  All sorts of silver fish ID issues this year.
