 Good morning!
Launched out of Michigan City yesterday morning a little later than we wanted 7:10 am.  The pierheads were stacked full of baitfish with plenty of boats so we set up and trolled towards Portage. Lots of baitfish in 20 to 24 fow. We went 15 for 22. Everything took hits but flatlines were most productive. Green was the best color yesterday.

Brad's thin fish, spoons on riggers and dipsy.  We didn't didn't run any dodge flys yesterday.

Went into 13 fow and out to 35 fow but the baitfish were in 20 to 24 fow.

2.4 to 2.7 mph on the surface or over ground.
They had Shad or smelt in their stomachs.

Glad to finally see some fishing reports from you Trent! I was disappointed when I did not see any bait around New Buffalo yesterday. I was going to motor that way but then the wind shifted and I called it a day. Conditions changed fast when the wind shifted to NNE and I was 5 miles SW of NB closer to MC.
One other thing - I found 6 of the Producer spoons in an old tackle box and you are more than welcome to have them. I work in Warsaw, so I will send you a pm next week and we can arrange to meet somewhere south of Goshen.

Great report! Sounds like some good fishing

Quite the hodgepodge of fish in the bellies.

I see several chinook salmon smolts (bottom ones), an alewife or two (middle ones), a couple smelt (at the top) and what looks to be a goby on the far right

I've had reports and confirmed pics of chinook smolts in coho in Michigan City and New Buffalo too

Ben,

I've heard of quite a few smelt showing up in the MC fish that have been getting cleaned, which is to say it's more smelt showing up in bellies than I've heard in a LONG time.  This is really great to see.  Have you been hearing the same thing about more smelt around this year than years past, and if so what would you attribute that to?

It's great to finally be able to get out and enjoy fishing again!
I decided to launch out of City this year. I'm thinking the corners are going to have some good fishing this years and that puts me closer.

Just let me know when you want to meet and I'll be there

Have a great weekend!
