Caught this Saturday out of Cal Harbor.  Pretty certain it’s a brown trout but the meat was almost coho red which gave us doubts.  Our only fish of the day at 7.5 lbs.

Looks more like a steelhead, even though the body at the tail looks a little thin. But white mouth, square spotted tail sure scream steelhead.

Looks like a brown to me. I can't seen any spotting on the tail, maxilla extends beyond the eye, square tail, thinner caudal peduncle than steelhead

My vote is a steelhead. The blue color on the head, white mouth, squared tail and lack of spots tells me it's a steelhead.

Hmmm - I hate to go against guys who know their fish, but I'd just say it's a big coho. I have been fishing at Cal Harbor for the last week or so and have caught a few "jumbo" (for this time of year) cohos. For one, look at all the missing scales. Kings, browns, steelhead don't shed their scales in the box like cohos do. No tail spots? Not unusual for cohos,.especially after being in the cooler for a while. It's the right shape. Besides, it had bright red coho meat inside. Big coho, gets my vote, Nice fish. There have been lots of shad in Cal Harbor and the cohos have been taking advantage of them. I expect this fish was one that migrated in late Feb or early March and has been chowing down ever since.

The scale loss is definitely weird... but it's got a square tail , and no coho has that. The head/mouth also says brown

Then there's the matter of the adipose clip it's sporting - no coho stocked in the past 6 years have adipose clips, whereas Wisconsin is AD-clipping their seeforellen browns

Not sure how much this is worth but it fought like a brown trout.  Just a slow tug until it got in the prop wash and then it went in all sorts of directions.  Bait was a red brad’s though.

Does the IN DNR ad-clip the browns stocked at EC?
