The St. Joe launch has better boat ramps, nicer bathrooms, and a cleaning station. You do have to pay, but there is a degree of security there you may not have at the Benton Harbor boat launch. There have been instances of vandalism or car break-ins on the Benton Harbor side of the launch. I have not heard of anything like that happening at the St. Joe launch although you never do know. A police patrol vehicle frequently checks on the St. Joe launch site, which is a plus. Both launches get traffic. Benton Harbor does not have a cleaning station. The boat ramps are shorter, but are decent. Tackle Haven is right there and is one of the best tackle shops in southwest Michigan. Both are an equal distance from the pier heads.
