Teaching the boys how to run the boat is an excellent idea. Perhaps some CPR training would be a good idea too. We just can't be too safe. Sorry for your loss. Tough story to read.

First of all my condolences. Second don't feel bad or guilty - you helped the guy have great last day. I am sure his family is happy to know his last day was spent having fun.
It is important to know the signs of heart disease and don't think I'm too young. Majority of fatal heart attacks are between 35 and 50 - many times because people ignore the signs because they are "not old enough to have a heart attack".
I have my Radio tied to my Fish finder GPS and registered with the coast guard. Everyone I take on the boat I tell if something bad happens flip the red door and hit the button and call out a mayday. I was told many fishermen don't hook up the GPS because they don't want their position being given away. I would rather have someone find my fishing spot then not be able to find me in an emergency.

I have been told that the days spent fishing don't count against your life. I like to think you gave the man an extra day.
