Change seems to speed up as we get older.

You are right about the Skammy steelhead. Winter run fish are "normal." Skamanias are epigenetic. From what I remember, it took 16 generations of selective breeding to turn some Skamania River "normal" steelheads into summer run fish. Without specifically selecting "early run" parents, the summer fish will quickly turn into late summer/early fall run fish, then to strictly fall run, then eventually back to winter run.

That's why in the "early" days of Skamanias, the runs were short lived, but enormous. They all headed for Trail Creek and Portage at the same time. Now, one only gets a taste of what it was like when the water temps are perfect. Even when temps are perfect a good day isn't the 15 for 25 or 30 fish one would get for a few weeks late June/early July back in the day.

Burning books? Not me! I get all the books I read from the public library and though I could probably afford the fine, I certainly don't want to incur the wrath of Miss Brackwinkle, head librarian.

Merry Christmas - chicken is in the oven.

I don't know Mike, just seemed to me like you went way off on a right wing rant there. But, I'm guilty of leaning left and having a liberal arts degree from Bloomington. Sick of everything always turning into a political debate. Merry Christmas guys and girls, hope everyone got their wishes...

Southshore: I probably did go off on a bit of a rant. It's part of Lickety Split's and my job use our age and wisdom to try to set the young whipper snappers straight. It's not taught in schools these days. I try to keep is light hearted, often come up a bit short of the mark.

So take this next remark light-heartedly.

I now understand one of your issues, am happy you've apparently come face to face with it and are hopefully on the road to recovery. They say the first step in dealing with a problem is admitting there is a problem - which you did in your last post and I quote:

"But, I'm guilty of leaning left and having a liberal arts degree from Bloomington."

That explains a lot. But, I'm here to help. I realize it's tough medicine, but I think step two on your road to recovery is to learn this phrase and repeat it several time each day: BOILER-UP!
